So what exactly is Social Media? Wikipedia defines Social media as the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. Furthermore, social media depends on mobile and web-based technologies to create highly interactive platforms through which individuals and communities share, co-create , discuss, and modify user-generated content. It introduces substantial and pervasive changes to communication between organizations, communities and individuals.

Wow! That’s a mouthful! Hope I didn’t lose you guys with that long definition. Here’s a simpler definition of Social Media.

Social Media = Viral + Multi-way + Participatory + User-generated

With the changes in the way we communicate brought about by the development in social media; companies, advertisers, marketers, and PR companies are no longer just tasked to push out information to their audience. Consumers are now given for the first time a chance to talk to companies and give immediate feedback about their brands, products, and services.

As a business owner you’re probably asking how this will affect the bottom-line? It’s no longer the question of “IF?” or “WHEN?” but “What?” and “HOW?”.

What is your company doing and How are you going to address the challenges of a changing market?
